The Avalon 821 requires the use of an Avalon Controller.
Currently we are working on confirming if the current Blokforge controllers will work with both the previous models and future models and if they will require a firmware update.

This information will be sent out via newsletter as well as updated here once we have confirmed.

Can’t wait for this miner to be released! I hope I am able to get one this time. Wasn’t able to get a 741…

Please update with your findings. Will it require a flash of the older controller or another means of updating. We’re getting closer to the release of the 8 series miners. I can’t wait!!!

There’s nothing official on the Canaan support page yet, and I have no idea if the blokforge folks have heard back yet..

However, if you go to the avalon MM firmware download location, and go back two folders there is an 821 folder, and an openwrt file available for the Pi 1-3.
    here’s the link https://canaan.io/downloads/software/avalon821/openwrt/20171216/

If it turns out the old MM firmware doesn’t work with the 821’s that would be the place to look first.

Chevar and BlokforgeBecca, thank you both for the prompt replies! I will give the flash a try in the morning and will report my findings. Good luck this evening!

Glad there is another thread on this. I am looking to use a 741 Controller I just bought for the 821s

Since I just got it last week perhaps I should just return exchange it for the Avalon Controller?

I don’t believe the controllers themselves are specific to a miner, it’s the firmware that may be.

Confirmed, here is the link Chevar shared to the firmware update for the avalon controller for the 821’s…looks like you’ll need one controller for the 741 with the older firmware and then a separate controller with the new firmware to run the 821’s.

Canaan on their website recommends to run a controller for each type of avalon product.
